..through the tunnel, to the other side..

Boy, if you stand for nothing
The powers-that-be keep telling me
You will fall for anything
Oh yeah, As sure as 1 plus 2 is 3.

Where do i find that something
In this shifting, rolling sand
In this mire i call life
How shall i make my last stand.

Clinging to the edge of being
Was trying to walk the line
Obligations on the one side
Overbear aspirations of mine.

I cannot call myself free
Never was, never will be
For the duties and the claims
Thousands, they tug at me.

Some things in life come to pass
And others, sadly, they may not
Only the fullness of time lets you see
Which comes to fruition, and which to nought.

Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown
Hidden canker in the youthful heart
For the night before dawn is long n dark
When hopes can die, souls depart.

Timid though the heart may writhe
Cowering from tomorrow
It does well to pulse unerringly
Life brings hope, though the path be narrow.
